Section 59-1-390 - Courses necessitating wearing of protective eye devices; purchase of devices; protective-corrective devices(A) A pupil and teacher in a public school shall wear an industrial quality eye device while participating in the following courses:(1) career and technology or industrial art shops or laboratories involving use of or exposed to:(b) milling, sawing, turning, shaping, cutting, or stamping of any solid materials;(c) heat treatment, tempering, or kiln firing of any metal or other materials;(d) gas or electric arc welding;(e) repair or servicing of any vehicle;(f) caustic or explosive materials;(2) chemical or combined chemical-physical laboratories involving caustic or explosive chemical or hot liquids or solids.(B) The trustees of each school district shall purchase and place in public schools plano protective eye devices for the eye protection of pupils, teachers, and visitors to the classrooms or laboratories.(C) A person desiring protective-corrective lenses instead of plano protective devices supplied by the school trustees, at his own expense, shall procure and equip himself with industrial quality eye protective devices secured from legally authorized dispensers.(D) "Industrial quality eye protective device", as used in this section, means a device meeting the standards of the American Standard Safety Code for Head, Eye, and Respiratory Protection, Z2.1-1959, promulgated by the American Standards Association, Incorporated.2005 Act No. 49, Section 1, eff 5/3/2005; 1965 (54) 679; 1962 Code Section 32-697.
