Section 45-52-234.34 - Authorization of certain inmates to wash and clean vehicles; disposition of fees; Sheriff's Car Wash Fund(a) The Sheriff of Morgan County as part of his or her work release program may authorize inmates in the Morgan County Jail who have trustee status to wash and clean automobiles, trucks, and other motor vehicles for a fee to be established and received by the sheriff. Ten percent of the fee collected shall be remitted to the Morgan County Commission for deposit to the county general fund; 30 percent of the fee collected shall be deposited to the car wash fund referred to in subsection (b); and the remainder of the fee shall be paid or credited to the account of the inmate performing the work.(b) The portion of the fees retained by the sheriff pursuant to this section shall be deposited by the sheriff in a bank located in Morgan County, selected by the sheriff, and credited to a fund to be known as the Sheriff's Car Wash Fund. The sheriff may draw upon the fund from time to time for law enforcement purposes and for other expenses and activities associated with the operation of the sheriff's office so long as such purposes are deemed by the sheriff in his or her discretion to be in the public interest.(c) The establishment of the car wash fund and the use of the proceeds thereof shall not diminish or take the place of any other source of income established for the sheriff or for the operation of the sheriff's office.Ala.
