Section 45-51A-32.121 - Abolition of position or employment

Whenever in the judgment of the governing body of the county or municipality or any elected county official it becomes necessary in the interest of economy or because the necessity for any position in its or his or her department no longer exists, it or he or she may abolish any position or employment in the competitive service and lay off the employee holding such position or employment without filing written charges and without the right of appeal. The name of such an employee so laid off shall be placed at the top of the appropriate employment list or lists as provided by the rules.
