Section 36-21-51.1 - The Cade Noah Act
(a) This act shall be known and may be cited as the Cade Noah Act.
(b)
(1) Beginning January 1, 2024, the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) shall require each law enforcement officer certified by APOSTC to complete one hour of training on interacting with individuals with sensory needs or invisible disabilities every other year. This training shall be in addition to the continuing education course requirement under Section 36-21-51, Code of Alabama 1975.
(2) The commission shall collaborate with a nonprofit company that provides training on individuals with sensory needs or invisible disabilities to administer the training required by this subsection. The company shall provide the required training related to individuals with sensory needs or invisible disabilities without compensation. The training may be provided in person or online.
(c)
(1) The commission shall review each law enforcement agency's compliance with this act in the same manner that the commission reviews compliance with other continuing education requirements.
(2) The commission shall ensure that the company chosen to administer the training annually reviews and updates the training to include changes and trends relating to individuals with sensory needs or invisible disabilities.
(d) The commission may adopt rules for the implementation and administration of this act.
