Section 16-1-31 - Elective course credit for participation in YMCA Youth and Government programs(a) Each public local board of education may provide that a high school student who participates in YMCA Youth and Government programs may earn elective course credit for participation providing that Section 16-28-5, which requires 140 days of instruction by a certified teacher, is adhered to.(b) The amount of elective course credit granted for participation in YMCA Youth and Government programs shall be determined by the local board of education, but the credit shall not exceed one credit unit.(c) Participation by a student in YMCA Youth and Government programs shall be certified by the local YMCA official responsible for the program.(d) YMCA Youth and Government programs eligible for credit pursuant to this section shall be approved by local boards of education.(e) Local boards of education may adopt minimum standards for any program pursuant to this section including minimum standards for the curriculum and participation in order to qualify for credit.Ala.
