Section 6-17-2402 - DefinitionsAs used in this subchapter:
(1)(A)(i) "Basic contract" means a teacher employment contract for one hundred ninety (190) days that includes no less than six (6) days of professional development, except as provided under subdivision (1)(B) of this section for teachers employed in a Civilian Student Training Program or the Arkansas National Guard Youth Challenge Program.(ii) A public school district shall not require more than four (4) days of professional development in addition to the six (6) days of professional development included in a basic contract under subdivision (1)(A)(i) of this section.(B)(i) For the purpose of a teacher employed in the Civilian Student Training Program or the Arkansas National Guard Youth Challenge Program, a basic contract for a teacher means:(a) Full-time employment for one hundred ninety (190) days that includes no less than six (6) days of professional development; and(b) All additional days in excess of one hundred ninety (190) days paid at the daily rate under § 6-17-2403 that are required for full-time annual employment and subject to the policies and guidelines of the Arkansas National Guard.(ii) A basic contract for a teacher employed in the Arkansas National Guard Youth Challenge Program shall include a yearly accrual of two (2) days of annual leave and nine (9) days of sick leave;(2) "Master's degree" means a graduate degree awarded for successful completion of a program at the master's level or higher related to: (B) Guidance counseling; or(C) A teacher's teaching content area; and(3) "Teacher" means: (A) An individual who is required to hold a teaching license from the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education and who is engaged directly in instruction with students in a classroom setting for more than seventy percent (70%) of the individual's contracted time;(B) A guidance counselor; orAmended by Act 2023, No. 548,§ 2, eff. 8/1/2023.Amended by Act 2021, No. 75,§ 1, eff. 7/28/2021.Amended by Act 2019, No. 910,§ 1486, eff. 7/1/2019.Amended by Act 2015, No. 1177,§ 1, eff. 7/22/2015.Amended by Act 2015, No. 44,§ 1, eff. 7/22/2015.Acts 2003 (2nd Ex.
