Section 18.65.678 - Firearms training(a) A village public safety officer may not, except in an emergency, carry a firearm in the performance of the officer's duties until the officer has successfully completed(1) a basic firearms training program that is certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council or substantially similar training as determined by the department;(2) a psychological examination conducted by a mental health professional; and(3) all annual firearm qualification requirements.(b) In determining the successful completion of basic firearms training, the department may consider previous training and experience that is substantially similar to the training required under (a) of this section.Added by SLA 2022, ch. 16,sec. 4, eff. 6/29/2022.
