Section 08.84.030 - Qualifications for licensing(a) To be eligible for licensure by the board as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant, an applicant, unless a graduate of a foreign school of physical therapy located outside the United States, shall (1) have graduated from a professional physical therapy education program that includes supervised field work and is accredited by a national accreditation agency approved by the board;(2) pass, to the satisfaction of the board, an examination prepared by a national testing service approved by the board to determine the applicant's fitness for practice as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant, or be entitled to licensure without examination as provided in AS 08.84.060; (3) meet qualifications for licensure established in regulations adopted by the board under AS 08.84.010(b); and(4) have been fingerprinted and have provided the fees required by the Department of Public Safety under AS 12.62.160 for criminal justice information and a national criminal history record check; the fingerprints and fees shall be forwarded to the Department of Public Safety to obtain a report of criminal justice information under AS 12.62 and a national criminal history record check under AS 12.62.400.(b) To be eligible for licensure by the board as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, an applicant, unless a graduate of a foreign school of occupational therapy located outside the United States, shall (1) have graduated from a professional occupational therapy education program that includes supervised field work and is accredited by a national accreditation agency approved by the board;(2) pass, to the satisfaction of the board, an examination prepared by a national testing service approved by the board or an examination recognized by a national accreditation agency approved by the board to determine the applicant's fitness for practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, or be entitled to licensure without examination under AS 08.84.060; (3) meet qualifications for licensure established in regulations adopted by the board under AS 08.84.010(b); and(4) have been fingerprinted and have provided the fees required by the Department of Public Safety under AS 12.62.160 for criminal justice information and a national criminal history record check; the fingerprints and fees shall be forwarded to the Department of Public Safety to obtain a report of criminal justice information under AS 12.62 and a national criminal history record check under AS 12.62.400.Amended by SLA 2024, ch. 42,sec. 2, eff. 8/31/2024.Amended by SLA 2022, ch. 66,sec. 2, eff. 11/30/2022, app. to applications for licensure under AS 08.84.040 submitted on or after 11/30/2022.
