After verdict against him, the defendant shall not be permitted to submit any affidavit to the court which goes to deny matters of fact, but he may submit affidavits as to matters in extenuation or mitigation; provided, they are filed so as to allow the Attorney General or Solicitor a reasonable time to answer them.
