Rule 22 - Appointment of attorney by the courts

Upon representation in writing by any person to the Presiding Justice of the Superior Court, the Chief Judge of either the Family or District Courts of his or her inability to obtain counsel in connection with a claim or complaint against an attorney authorized to practice law before such court arising out of said attorney's practice of law, the Presiding Justice or the Chief Judge shall appoint an attorney to represent such person at the latter's cost and expense. In the case of indigent complainants, the Presiding Justice of the Superior Court or the Chief Judge may refer the complaint to an appropriate agency, or, in their discretion, appoint an attorney for the complainant, to be compensated by such agency to the extent possible, or to serve without compensation. Any attorney so appointed shall not withdraw from such representation without the permission of the appointing authority.
