When Bond Is Required

A bond is required when an executor or administrator is not a resident of Pennsylvania, unless one of the foregoing exceptions apply.

When a bond is required, the amount of the bond usually is set by the Register at double the declared value of the personal property in the estate. If the estate is composed solely of real property, a nominal bond without surety may be required in the discretion of the Register. If the real estate is sold during the course of administration, additional bond may be required unless excused by application to the Orphans' Court.
