Rule 1.4 - Misdemeanor First AppearancesThe presiding District Court Judge shall conduct first appearances for defendants who are in pre-trial custody for one or more misdemeanor charges that are unrelated to a felony charge:
A) Defendants in pre-trial custody for one or more misdemeanor charges that are unrelated to a felony charge shall be taken before a District Court Judge on the next business day after arrest.B) The presiding judge shall consider appointing counsel, review conditions of release, and review the scheduled court date to determine if scheduling an earlier court date is appropriate.N.C.
