Notice of the final adoption hearing must be provided to both natural parents, even if a natural parent has consented to the adoption, except as otherwise provided by Kansas statute.
The assessment, investigation and report are not required by statute for step-parent adoptions, per K.S.A. 59-2132. However, an assessment, investigation and report may be desired by the Court in a step-parent adoption, depending on the circumstances. Check with the district judge assigned to the case to determine if the report will be required.
