Rule 8.13 - Coordination of Cases - Supreme Court Rule
A. All cases involving the same minor children, whenever possible or appropriate, shall be assigned to one Judge, including cases arising from the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act, Paternity Act, Illinois Domestic Violence Act, Probate (Guardianship), Juvenile Court Act and Adoption Act.
B. Whenever multiple proceedings involve the same child(ren), then the cases shall be coordinated as follows:
(i) Upon a party's motion, or on the Court's own motion, after learning of multiple proceedings involving the same child(ren), pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 903 the Judges shall, within forty-eight (48) hours, confer to determine:
a. If it would be convenient and appropriate for the consolidation of the cases; and
b. Which Judge or Division shall hear the issues related to the child(ren).
C. Except for those proceedings involving the Juvenile Court Act, all matters determining the allocation of parental rights and responsibilities pursuant to the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act shall be heard by a Judge in the Domestic Relations Division.
