Rule 8.5 - Continuing a Trial Date(a)Motion. A party may ask to continue trial by filing a motion stating the specific reasons for the request.(b)Grounds. A court may continue trial only on a showing that extraordinary circumstances exist and that delay is indispensable to the interests of justice, and only for so long as is necessary to serve the interests of justice. The court must consider the rights of the defendant and any victim to a speedy disposition of the case.
