Section 4-6 - Fire Prevention and Protection

(a) Fire fighting equipment shall not be tampered with and shall not be removed for other than the intended fire fighting purpose or for recharging.

(b) Fire extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment shall be suitably located and plainly labeled as to their type and method of operation.

(c) Discarded oily material shall be stored closed metal containers.

(d) Access to exits or fire extinguishers shall not be blocked or obstructed by clothing, materials or equipment.

(e) Portable fire extinguishers shall be maintained in a fully charged and operable condition, and kept in their designated places at all times when they are not being used for fire fighting purposes or are being recharged.

(f) All fire extinguishers shall be maintained, inspected, and hydrostatically tested in accordance with the requirements of 1910.157, Occupational Health and Safety 1910 - General Rules and Regulations.

(g) Carbon tetrachloride extinguishers are not permitted.

(h) Natural or liquified petroleum gas (LPG) shall not be used to operate spray guns or other pneumatic equipment.

(i) No smoking shall be allowed within 25 feet of any flammable material storage area, or within 25 feet of the handling of flammable liquids. Any engine being refueled with flammable fuels shall be shut off during refueling.

(j) No open flames or smoking shall be permitted within 120 feet of the well bore or well if flammable substances are in the well.

(k) A minimum of one (1) fire extinguisher of 10 BC rating shall be on site when special services operations are being performed. Each piece of special services mobile equipment over 10,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight shall have a minimum of one (1) fire extinguisher of 10 BC rating or greater.
