(a) Sulfuric Acid Mist. Any existing facility producing sulfuric acid by the contact process by burning elemental sulfur, alkylation acid, hydrogen sulfide, organic sulfides, mercaptans, or acid sludge shall limit the atmospheric discharge of acid mist in the effluent to not more than 0.50 pounds per ton of acid produced (0.25 kgm per metric ton)--maximum 2-hour average, expressed as H2 SO4. Reference method: Method 8, Appendix A, 40 CFR part 60 or an equivalent method.
(b) Sulfur Dioxide. Any existing facility producing sulfuric acid by the contact process by burning elemental sulfur, alkylation acid, hydrogen sulfide, organic sulfides, mercaptans, or acid sludge shall limit the atmospheric discharge of sulfur dioxide in the effluent to not more than 2,000 ppm--maximum 2-hour average.
