Section 296-880-40080 - Roof edge materials handling and material storage requirementsRoof edge materials handling areas and materials storage must conform with the following provisions:
(1) When guardrails are used at hoisting areas, a minimum of four feet of guardrail must be erected along each side of the access point through which materials are hoisted.(2) A chain or gate must be placed across the opening between the guardrail sections when hoisting operations are not taking place.(3) When guardrails are used at bitumen pipe outlet, a minimum of four feet of guardrail must be erected along each side of the pipe.(4) Mechanical equipment must be used or stored only in areas where employees are protected using a fall arrest system as described in WAC 296-880-40020, or a fall restraint system as described in WAC 296-880-40025. Mechanical equipment may not be used or stored where the only protection is provided by the use of a safety monitor.(5) The hoist must not be used as an attachment/anchorage point for fall arrest or fall restraint systems.(6) Materials must not be stored within six feet of a roof edge unless guardrails are erected at the roof edge. Guardrails must include a toeboard if employees could be working or passing below.Wash. Admin. Code § 296-880-40080
