Section 296-24-71517 - Cadmium
(1)General. In confined spaces or indoors, you must perform welding or cutting operations involving cadmium-bearing or cadmium-coated base metals using local exhaust ventilation or airline respirators unless atmospheric tests under the most adverse conditions show that employee exposure is within the acceptable concentrations specified by chapter 296-62 WAC. You must perform such operations, when done outdoors, using respirators, such as fume respirators, certified for this purpose by NIOSH under 42 C.F.R. Part 84.
(2)Confined space. You must perform welding (brazing) involving cadmium-bearing filler metals using ventilation as prescribed in WAC 296-24-71505 or 296-24-71507 if the work is to be done in a confined space.
