Section 12VAC5-90-140 - Procedure for preventing ophthalmia neonatorum

The physician, nurse, or midwife in charge of the infant's care after delivery of a baby shall ensure that a 1-cm ribbon of 0.5% erythromycin ophthalmic ointment is administered in each eye of that newborn baby as soon as possible. This treatment shall be recorded in the medical record of the infant.
