Section 1130-01-.03 - NECESSITY OF LICENSE
(1) Prior to engagement of the practice as a physician assistant in Tennessee, a person must hold a current Tennessee license or temporary license issued pursuant to rule 1130-01-.14 unless exempted from licensure pursuant to T.C.A. § 63-19-110.
(2) It is unlawful for any person who is not licensed in the manner prescribed in T.C.A. §§ 63-19-101 et seq. to represent himself as a licensed physician assistant or to hold himself out to the public as being licensed by means of using a title on signs, mailboxes, address plates, stationery, announcements, telephone listings, calling cards, or other instruments of professional identification.
(3) Use of Titles - Any person who holds a valid license or temporary license from the Committee shall have the right to use the title "physician assistant" or the abbreviations "PA" or "PA-C" and to practice as a physician assistant, as defined in T.C.A. § 63-19-102. Any person licensed by the Committee to whom this rule applies must use one of the titles authorized by this rule in every "advertisement" [as that term is defined in Rule 1130-01-.20(2)(a) ] he or she publishes or the failure to do so will constitute an omission of a material fact which makes the advertisement misleading and deceptive and subjects the physician assistant to disciplinary action pursuant to Rule 1130-01-.15(1)(a), (1)(c), (1)(h), (1)(p) and (1)(v).
(4) The profession of physician assistant is one of the healing arts and as such the practice of which is restricted to those persons credentialed by the Committee. Person engaging in the practice as a physician assistant without being credentialed are in violation of T.C.A. § 63-19-105.
