Section 0940-05-16-.04 - HOSPITAL MEDICAL ORDERS
(1) All orders for diagnostic procedures, treatments, medications and transfer or disposition must be recorded legibly in ink or typewritten, dated and signed by the physician, dentist or podiatrist. All telephone orders and oral orders may be taken by licensed nurses. Telephone orders and oral orders may also be taken by allied health specialists who are qualified by training and experience and categorically approved by the medical staff of the facility. Telephone orders and oral orders must be countersigned by the physician, dentist or podiatrist at the time of the next visit.
(2) Distinction must be made as to whether medication orders are received "orally" or "by telephone", and the person recording must sign their name and title. No patient must be given medication, special diet, or treatment except upon a physician, dentist or podiatrist's order taken by either a licensed nurse or an allied health specialist qualified by training and experience and categorically approved by the medical staff of the facility.
