If there is a malfunction of the timer during a time trial, but the timer operates correctly in other time trials, the electronic times may not be disregarded and the average of the hand times as set forth in § 20:04:25.01:06 shall be used for all other time trials. The only exception to this is where the conditions of the stakes race allow the use of the average hand times for all time trials or provide that finalists shall be selected by order of finish in the event of a malfunction of the timer during time trials.
