Section 20:04:23:21.01 - Whip to be used for safety, correction, and encouragement only

The whip may only be used for safety, correction, and encouragement of the horse. Each jockey shall consider the following when using the whip:

(1) Showing the horse the whip and giving the horse time to respond before hitting the horse;

(2) Having used the whip, giving the horse a chance to respond before using the whip again; and

(3) Using the whip in rhythm with the horse's stride.
