Section 20:04:18:20 - Requirements of veterinarian - Administration of drugs and medicine prohibited - Records of medicaments required

If an association employs a veterinarian, he must be licensed to practice in South Dakota. A veterinarian employed by an association may not dispense an injectable drug or medicine except in emergencies. He must keep a complete record of his administration of any medicament to a horse, the names of the owner and trainer, the date and time of administration of the drug or medicament, and the nature of the medicament administered. This record must be reported immediately to the state steward and the commission. A horse so recorded must be removed from racing for three days.
