Section 20:04:18:15 - Delivery of specimens

All specimens taken by or under the direction of the state veterinarian shall be delivered to an official chemist designated by the South Dakota racing commission for official analysis. The specimen shall be taken by the official veterinarian and delivered to the testing laboratory under the procedure for collection, identification, and transmittal used in routine testing. Samples shall be forwarded in containers approved by the racing commission. Each specimen shall be marked by number and date and bear information essential to its proper analysis. The identity of the horse from which the specimen was taken or the identity of its owner or trainer shall not be revealed to the official chemist. The container of each specific specimen shall be sealed as soon as the specimen is placed in the container. Samples shall be frozen as soon as possible after being marked and sealed. Containers shall be disposable and shall not be reused. Urine samples shall be taken from the horse for deposit into clean transfer cups or containers.
