2.1.2DEFINITION

"Family child care home" means any home other than the child's home in which child care, in lieu of parental care and/or supervision, is offered at the same time to four (4) or more children who are not relatives of the care giver. These programs shall be licensed by the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) in accordance with R.I. Gen. Laws Chapter 42-72.1. Issuance of a Family Child Care Home License is based on compliance with the regulations contained in this document and upon evidence that the home meets the appropriate state fire and health codes. A license is valid for a period of two years. Any person who operates a Family Child Care Home as defined in R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-72.1-2 without a license shall be referred by the DCYF Child Care Licensing Unit to the Attorney General's Office for prosecution in accordance with R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-72.1-7.
