Section 212.11 - Metric measurements(a)General policy. The following conversion factors may be used for the design and placement of traffic-control devices as included in this chapter: (1) One inch equals 25 millimeters.(2) One foot equals 0.30 meter.(3) One mile equals 1.6 kilometers.(b)Metric sign messages. Unless authorized in writing by the Secretary, sign messages on regulatory, warning and guide signs, except for auxiliary signs used for educational purposes, may not display metric units of measurement.
