Section 9.192 - Groundwater protection(a) Due to the natural characteristics of carbonate terrain, groundwater contamination is a serious problem. Solution channels in carbonate formations can carry contaminated groundwater rapidly over large areas with little purification or filtration. Since many of the high yield aquifers of the Commonwealth are in areas with carbonate geology, the potential for groundwater contamination is a Statewide concern.(b) It shall be the environmental policy of the Commonwealth to prevent the contamination of aquifers in carbonate rock formations by discouraging land use and development activities which may threaten groundwater quality.
