The following are guidelines for the use of commas:
(1) If a sentence consists of two independent clauses, each with subject and predicate, use a comma before the conjunction.(2) If the second part of a sentence has no subject, a comma is unnecessary unless required for clarity.(3) Enclose a parenthetical phrase or clause with two commas.(4) Words, phrases, or clauses in a series are separated by commas.(5) The use of the comma before the conjunction connecting the last two members of a series is preferable, but the comma may be omitted unless required for clarity.
