Section 4732-9-02.1 - [Effective 1/1/2025] Requirements for licensure as a licensed school psychologist

The requirements to be a licensed school psychologist are generally set forth under division (D) of section 4732.10 of the Revised Code. With regard to such requirements, the board further prescribes that the school psychology license applicant's application shall comply with the requirements in paragraph (A), paragraph (B), or paragraph (C) of this rule:

(A) Applicants who do not hold the nationally certified school psychologist (NCSP) credential issued by the national association of school psychologists and who do not meet requirements for reciprocity detailed in paragraph (C) of this rule shall submit evidence of the following:
(1) An academic transcript from an accredited (see paragraphs (E) and (F) of rule 4732-3-01 of the Administrative Code) educational institution evidencing a master's degree in school psychology or an earned graduate degree considered equivalent by the board, including at least ninety graduate quarter hours or sixty graduate semester hours in course work which may include practica relevant to the study of school psychology. The coursework requirements for a degree outside of the field of school psychology to be considered equivalent to a master's degree in school psychology are found in paragraphs (A) and (B) of rule 4732-9-01 of the Administrative Code;
(2) Documentation of completion of a nine-month, full-time internship in an approved school setting as evidenced by a report to the board from the degree-granting university internship coordinator or designee;
(3) Documentation of a passing score on the Praxis school psychology specialty exam. Information about the passing score cutoff can be obtained from the board office and on the board's website; and
(4) Documentation of compliance with the background check requirements in rule 4732-9-04 of the Administrative Code.
(B) Nationally certified school psychologist (NCSP) endorsement.
(1) Applicants verified by board staff as holding a valid and active nationally certified school psychologist credential (NCSP) issued by the national association of school psychologists shall be issued a license without additional documentation of education or experience; and
(2) The applicant shall comply with requirements for a criminal records check specified in rule 4732-9-04 of the Administrative Code.
(C) License reciprocity. Pursuant to section 4732.12 of the Revised Code, a school psychologist licensed to practice in school settings by another state, a territory, or the District of Columbia shall be issued a license as a school psychologist if the board determines the following requirements are met:
(1) The applicant has been licensed as a school psychologist for at least one year preceding the date of submission of the application and has been actively engaged in the practice of school psychology for at least one of the five years immediately preceding the submission of the application; and
(2) The applicant complies with requirements for a criminal records check specified in rule 4732-9-04 of the Administrative Code.
