Section 4501:1-1-09 - Issuance of temporary instruction permit identification card(A) No person shall be granted a temporary instruction permit identification card (TIPIC) until the person has successfully passed all phases of the pre-temporary instruction permit driver license examination prescribed in paragraph (A) of rule 4501:1-1-08 of the Administrative Code. If a person has so qualified for a TIPIC and there is presence of a physical disability which would impair the applicant's ability to operate a motor vehicle but does not require continuing medical supervision, or the visual acuity is such that day time driving only is in order, the TIPIC issued shall be a restricted TIPIC and any condition or restriction recommended by the examiner and/or determined necessary by the registrar of motor vehicles shall be noted thereon. If the physical condition is one which indicates that medical clearance should be required, or if there is evidence of a mental disability that would impair the ability to operate a motor vehicle, no TIPIC shall be issued until such time as the necessary medical clearance is submitted. Any condition or restriction recommended by the examiner or determined necessary by the registrar shall be noted on such TIPIC.(B) No person shall be given a validated commercial driver's TIPIC until the person has successfully passed all applicable phases of the pre-temporary instruction permit commercial driver's examination prescribed in paragraph (B) of rule 4501:1-1-08 of the Administrative Code, and has given satisfactory evidence that the person holds a valid driver's license, other than a restricted license, issued under Chapter 4507. of the Revised Code, and, if required, has given satisfactory evidence that the person holds a current medical examiner's certificate/card stating that the person is physically qualified to drive the motor vehicle for which the application is being made.Ohio Admin.
