Section 3701-17-12 - Notification and reporting of changes in health status, illness, injury and death of a residentThe nursing home administrator or the administrator's designee shall:
(A) Immediately inform the resident, consult with resident's physician or other licensed health professional acting within the applicable scope of practice, or the medical director, if the resident's physician or other licensed health professional acting within the applicable scope of practice is not available, and notify the resident's sponsor or authorized representative, with the resident's permission, and other proper authority, in accordance with state and local laws and regulations when there is:(1) An accident involving the resident which results in injury and has the potential for requiring physician intervention;(2) A significant change in the resident's physical, mental, or psycho-social status such as a deterioration in health, mental, or psycho-social status in either life-threatening conditions or clinical complications;(3) A need to alter treatment significantly such as a need to discontinue an existing form of treatment due to adverse consequences, or to commence a new form of treatment. The notification shall include a description of the circumstances and cause, if known, of the illness, injury or death. A notation of the change in health status and any intervention taken shall be documented in the medical record. If the resident is a patient of a hospice care program, the notifications required by this paragraph shall be the responsibility of the hospice care program unless otherwise indicated in the coordinated plan of care required under paragraph (H) of rule 3701-17-14 of the Administrative Code.
(B) Report the death of a resident within twenty-four hours to the appropriate third-party payer; or, if the office is closed, as soon thereafter as it is open.(C) Report any incident of fire, damage due to fire and any incidence of illness, injury or death due to fire or smoke inhalation of a resident within twenty-four hours to the office of the state fire marshal and to the director.(D) Report the diseases required to be reported under Chapter 3701-3 of the Administrative Code in the manner specified by that chapter.
