The university of Toledo is committed to providing assistance and support to meet the unique needs of service members, veterans and their dependents so they may succeed at degree attainment. To that end, this policy establishes procedures to protect students supported by the Ohio national guard scholarship program or chapter thirty-one or chapter thirty-three veterans administration from accidental penalties due to the administration of those programs at the university of Toledo.
The purpose of this policy is to establish procedural guidelines The university of Toledo will follow with regard to service members, veterans and their dependents supported by the aforementioned benefits programs while enrolled at the institution. In alignment with section 3345.42 of the Revised Code, this policy utilizes the following definitions for "service member" and "veteran":
"Service member" means a person who is serving in the armed forces of the United States.
"Veteran" means any person who has completed service in the armed forces, including the national guard of any state or a reserve component of the armed forces, and who has been discharged under honorable conditions from the armed forces or who has been transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service.
All service members, veterans and dependents utilizing the Ohio national guard scholarship program or veterans administration education benefits enrolled at the university of Toledo.
This policy shall supersede other relevant policies and procedures for the purposes of this population under circumstances as described in paragraph (D) of this rule.
The university of Toledo will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any individual eligible for tuition benefits through the Ohio national guard scholarship program, chapter thirty-one or chapter thirty-three veterans administration education benefits because of the individual's inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of a payment by the Ohio national guard or veterans administration. Financial obligations that are not covered by the Ohio national guard scholarship nor veterans administration benefits, along with any late fees accrued for these obligations will be the responsibility of the student.
