Section 84-01-01-01 - Organization and functions of the of.ce of state treasurer
1.History. The state treasurer is a constitutionally elected of.cer of the state under section 2 of article V of the Constitution of North Dakota. The powers and duties of the state treasurer are prescribed by law.
2.Functions. The state treasurer receives and keeps all money of the state except if otherwise provided; disburses public money upon warrants lawfully drawn; renders the treasurer's accounts to the of.ce of management and budget as required; reports biennially to the governor the balance in the treasury; maintains custody of the permanent fund; is custodian of the securities of the state; and is responsible for several distributions of taxes to county and city government. The state treasurer serves, by law, on the university and school lands board, state investment board, state board of equalization, state historical board, state board of canvassers, and the teachers' fund for retirement board.
