Section 69.5-01-07-13 - Dead heats1. In the event of a dead heat, the prize money will be distributed in equal shares to the owners of the horses so finishing. In a dead heat finish for first place, each horse must be considered a winner of the amount of the purse or prize.2. If a prize includes a cup, plate, or other indivisible prize, owners shall draw lots for the prize in the presence of at least two stewards.3. In the event of a dead heat finish for second place (and thereafter), and an objection to the winner of the race is sustained, the horses in the dead heat must be considered to have run a dead heat for first place.N.D.
