Section 06C .0393 - MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS TRAINING ELEMENTARY AND EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN GENERAL CURRICULUM TEACHERSIn addition to the minimum requirements set forth in G.S. 115C-269.20(1) and (2), all Educator Preparation Programs that provide training for elementary and exceptional children general curriculum teachers shall include coursework in the following areas:
(1) Instruction in the teaching of mathematics with attention to the following: (a) content, which includes number and operations, early algebra, measurement; and(b) pedagogical issues, which includes high quality tasks, classroom discourse, instructional moves.(2) Instruction in evidence-based learning trajectories, how to identify what students are able to do, and what is needed to address their needs including:(a) how to identify which mathematical concepts or skills students have and have not demonstrated, and(b) how to plan for instruction based on student strengths and needs as determined by the evidence.(3) Instruction in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of instructional supports and how to adapt and utilize mathematical resources to advance instruction; and(4) Instruction in designing learning experiences to align with specific learning goals.16 N.C.
