Section 06C .0365 - NON-TEACHING WORK EXPERIENCE CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR NORTH CAROLINA EDUCATORS(a) An educator may receive credit for non-teaching work experience when it is determined to be relevant and directly related to the educator's work assignment and license held.(b) For the purposes of this Rule, "non-teaching work experience" means professional work experience in public or private sectors that is directly related to an individual's area of licensure and work assignment, including the following: (1) work experience earned while self-employed if it is verified by a tax attorney or an accountant who prepared the educator's tax returns or by a company co-owner; or(2) full-time non-teaching work experience of less than six calendar months in one fiscal year if when combined with another fiscal year of part-time or full-time non-teaching work experience equals at least one year of experience credit.(c) Credit for non-teaching work experience is not transferable to other licensure areas for which the experience is not relevant.(d) To be eligible for credit, the non-teaching work experience must meet the following criteria: (1) was at least half-time, which is defined as 20 hours or more per week or full time, which is defined as 40 hours or more per week;(2) was completed after age 18;(3) did not include on-the-job training; and(4) was paid and documented.(e) An educator may receive credit for one year of work experience for every two years of full-time relevant work experience completed prior to earning a bachelor's degree or may receive credit for one year of experience for each year of full-time relevant non-teaching work experience completed after earning a bachelor's degree.16 N.C.
