Section 1506.4 - Separation requirements(a) The walls enclosing motor vehicle storage facilities in a multiple dwelling, the structural members therein and the floor over and the floor below the storage facilities shall be of noncombustible construction having fire resistance ratings of at least two hours but not less than that required for the corresponding components of the multiple dwelling.(b) The common wall between a multiple dwelling and an attached building or structure for motor vehicle storage shall be of noncombustible materials and have a fire resistance rating of at least two hours. All portions of such building or structure that are less than 10 feet from the multiple dwelling shall be of noncombustible materials and have a fire resistance rating of at least two hours, except that nonbearing walls other than the common wall and bearing walls that are more than 10 feet but within 20 feet from the multiple dwelling shall have a fire resistance rating of not less than three-quarter hour.(c) Motor vehicle storage facilities having an above-grade building volume exceeding 8000 cubic feet or exceeding one story in height and having exterior walls less than 20 feet from a multiple dwelling, shall have such walls protected on the exterior with noncombustible facings of at least three-quarter hour fire protection, but the fire resistance rating of such walls shall be not less than that required for the type of construction of such facility.N.Y.
