N.Y. Comp. Codes R. & Regs. tit. 9 § 8.201
WHEREAS, the importance of public service and public duty, are at the heart of the qualities we cherish in all citizens of the State of New York, and are at the heart of the definition of what we expect from a civically virtuous citizen;
WHEREAS, H. Carl McCall has had a career unmatched in its unwavering dedication to the people of this State for over fifty years, including his terms as a State Senator, his service as an Ambassador to the United Nations, his work as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, his time as the New York State Commissioner of Human Rights, his service as the New York State Comptroller, and his consistent dedication to the education of our State"TMs youth, both as the President of the New York City Board of Education and as the Chairman of the Trustees of the State University of New York;
WHEREAS, H. Carl McCall has consistently been a passionate advocate dedicated to the importance of diversity, and broke barriers himself as the first African-American elected to statewide office in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, H. Carl McCall"TMs lengthy and illustrious career in public service has changed the course of history in this State, particularly his dedication and commitment to our great State University system, where as Chairman of the Trustees he was instrumental in overseeing a comprehensive expansion of the SUNY"TMs academic performance and accomplishment, the burnishing of the SUNY"TMs national and international stature, and strengthened SUNY"TMs faculty, staff, and student bodies by increasing their diversity, and making SUNY an engine for social mobility.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ANDREW M. CUOMO, Governor of the State of New York, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the Laws of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim and direct that the State University of New York Plaza, located in the City of Albany, County of Albany, shall hereafter be known as the H. Carl McCall SUNY Building.
