Section 579.4 - Parking regulations
(a) Registration. All vehicles, other than visitors, including automobiles, trucks, motorbikes, motorcycles and other motor-operated vehicles to be operated or parked on college property, must be registered at the university police department in the Victorian House on the Alfred campus and in the student services building on the Wellsville Campus. Visitors should register their vehicles as soon as practical to avoid any enforcement violations. This can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the university police department located in the Victorian House.
(b) Fees.
(1) Faculty and staff annual vehicle registration fee is $5 per vehicle.
(2) The annual student vehicle registration fee is $50 per vehicle (of which $39 will be dedicated for student parking enhancement). Replacement stickers are $11 per vehicle.
(3) A one-week temporary registration fee is $5. Any changes to the vehicle registration plate number must be made at the university police office in the Victorian House.
(4) Vehicle re-registration necessitates campus registration, and there is an $11 fee.
(5) It is the responsibility of the owner, or person registering the vehicle, to see that other drivers of his vehicle know and adhere to these regulations.
(6) Part-time continuing education students must register their vehicles.
(c) Registration stickers. Students - each registered vehicle will be issued a registration sticker which must be affixed to the rearside window (driver's side) in accord with instructions provided. Properly registered motor vehicles must display a valid sticker in the designated area. Faculty/staff - must display hanging tag from rearview mirror of the vehicle.
(d) Authorized parking areas. Parking signs, color-coded to match issued parking permits, have been erected indicating designated parking areas for freshmen, seniors, and commuters. The campus map will help to further identify these specified areas. Vehicular parking in any area not shown (including walkways, roadways, ramp areas, areas adjacent to buildings, etc.), is prohibited. No person shall park a vehicle on the college premises in such manner as to interfere with the use of a fire hydrant, fire lane or other emergency zone, create any other hazard or unreasonably interfere with the free and proper use of a roadway or pedestrian walkway.
(e) Special parking.
(1) There are 30 handicapped parking spaces on campus. A vehicle displaying the NYS handicapped plate or card may park in these spaces as per the NYS Uniform Traffic Tickets Law.
(2) Visitors or campus guest parking permits should be displayed on the rearview mirror of the vehicle. Persons desiring to stay overnight on campus must obtain a special parking permit.
(3) Vehicles to be worked on in one of the automotive shops on the Wellsville Campus are to be registered with the faculty member and the university police.
(4) Parking lots on the Alfred Campus that are NO OVERNIGHT PARKING lots are those lots which are designated as commuter lots, specifically lots 1, 2, 4, 11, 13 and 22, as well as faculty and staff lots 9, 9A, 19 and 32.
(f) Parking areas.
(1) Existing hard-surfaced parking areas have painted lines identifying parking spaces. Parking elsewhere or in an other than designated parking space is prohibited. Parking is prohibited on all grass areas and is restricted to defined parking lots. Student parking areas are also located at the bus garage and greenhouse areas. There is bus transportation during the day to the Alfred Campus from these lots.
(2) Students are prohibited from parking in faculty and staff parking areas at any time. The ONLY exception to this restriction is for Wellsville students who, with SPECIAL PERMITS issued by the university police department, are allowed to park in designated faculty and staff lots overnight between 4 p.m. and 7 a.m.
(3) Commuters are not authorized to park behind Peet, Braddon, and Shults halls or in any faculty or staff lot.
(4) All parking areas are subject to change or close due to construction or any unforeseen need.
