If repayment of an award is required, such repayment shall be made in accordance with the the provisions of Education Law, section 605. I f compliance with the repayment schedule would involve extreme hardship to the award recipient, the president of the Higher Education Services Corporation may make such adjustments in repayment terms as may be appropriate, including waiver or suspension of all or part of the outstanding amount, subject to approval by the commissioner. Extreme hardship shall include only serious illness or other circumstances beyond the control of the award recipient, which illness or circumstances render it impossible to repay the loan as provided above. It shall not include family commitments or inconvenience.
