Section 678.4 - General prohibition on the bearing of firearms and carrying of explosive devices(a) Definitions. (1) When used in the following sections relating to the bearing of firearms, the term firearm shall mean any pistol, revolver, shotgun or other firearm which may be concealed upon the person.(2) When used in the following sections relating to presence on the premises of the State Department of Social Services or of any local social services department, the term premises shall mean only those rooms or portions of buildings actually utilized as business offices by the Department of Social Services or by a local social services department.(b) Policy.(1) No person shall bear or have in his possession any firearm or explosive device while on the premises of the Department of Social Services or of any local social services department.(2) No employee of the Department of Social Services or of any local social services department shall bear or have in his possession any firearm or explosive devices while engaged in official business of the Department of Social Services or of a local social services department.(c) Exceptions.(1) This section shall not apply to the possession of firearms by persons in the military or other service of the United States or the State of New York or of any of its political subdivisions in pursuit of official duty when duly authorized by Federal or State law, regulation, or order to possess the same.(2) This section shall not apply to the possession of firearms by a person who is an employee of the State Department of Social Services or a local social services department, or who renders services to the Department of Social Services or a local social services department pursuant to contract or other cooperative arrangement, if such person is in the performance of official duties and the person's official duties are limited to providing building security on department premises and/or providing security for department employees engaged in official business off the premises.N.Y.
