Section 70.4 - Placard requirements
(a) Shape. The placard shall be the shape and size of the following diagram:

(b) The square. The background of the square shall be red. In the upper third of the square, in red and white, shall be a picture of compressed gas burning. In the center third of the square, in red letters on a white background shall be the identification number required by the Department of Transportation on a placard on a truck transporting large quantities of the hydrocarbon gas being used for propulsion. The correct numbers are: propane - 1978, compressed natural gas - 1971, liquified petroleum gas - 1075, methane - 1971. However, the number 1075 may be used for any placard. The lower third of the square shall contain the number 2, which is the United Nations class number for gases.
(c) The rectangle. The background of the rectangle shall be white. In black letters shall appear the source or sources of propulsion for the vehicle such as propane, liquefied petroleum gas or methane.
(d) The placard shall be reflectorized.
(e) The placard shall be constructed of materials that will not fade or wash away when exposed to the elements.
