Section 46.2 - Lights
(a) Every omnibus having a seating capacity of more than seven passengers, used exclusively to transport pupils, teachers and other persons acting in a supervisory capacity to and from school or school activities shall be equipped with at least one flashing red signal lamp on the front and at least one flashing red signal lamp on the rear thereof.
(b) Each such lamp shall have a lens not less than six nor more than nine inches in diameter.
(c) Each such lamp must consist of a lamp with a red lens and not an uncolored lens with a red bulb.
(d) Each such lamp shall be separately installed, and may not be a part of or connected with, any other exterior lamp or lighting or signaling device installed on the vehicle.
(e) No inscription shall appear across the face of the lens.
(f) Such lamps may not have light greater than 50 candlepower or equivalent wattage. Such lamps may not be of a spotlight type, or be equipped with a magnifying lens.
(g) Each such signal lamp shall be attached securely to the exterior of the bus in such a manner that the top of the lens is not more than six inches below the top of the vehicle, such distance being measured at a point directly above the lamp. Where two lamps are used on front or rear, such lamps shall be mounted so that the centers of the lamps are not less than 46 inches, nor more than 72 inches apart.
(h) On an omnibus having a carrying capacity of not more than 11 adult passengers, computed on the basis of 16 seat inches per passenger for seats accommodating one or two adults and not less than 17 inches per passenger on seats accommodating three or more adults, in addition to the driver, such lamps may consist of two-faced lamps, facing both front and rear, mounted on top of the vehicle in approximately the center of the roof thereof. If at least two lamps are used, the centers of the lamps must be not less than 46 inches apart, but not more than 72 inches apart.
(i) Each such signal lamp must be of such design and construction as will provide a visible signal, under normal conditions, from a point at least 500 feet distant.
(j) Such lamps shall be installed so as to operate automatically whenever the vehicle door is open, but shall also be under the manual control of the driver at all times.
