Section 45-3.7 - Special requirements for dry slides
(a) Rides utilizing mats.
(1) Mats used by the riders shall be of pliable materials.
(2) Substantially damaged or worn mats shall not be used.
(b) Slide structure.
(1) Structures shall have all exposed edges smoothed and rounded and all joints between sections shall be maintained so as to preclude injury to the riders.
(2) The open sides of each stairway and landing providing access to a slide shall be protected by a railing at least 36 inches in height. Such railing shall be provided with a midrail.
(c) End of slide. The area at the end of a slide into which a rider enters upon completing a ride shall be free of obstructions and shall be covered with materials that will provide a cushioned landing and a safe rate of deceleration.
(d) Starting zone. At the start of the slide there shall be a zone at least 15 feet in length. The lower end of this zone shall be marked with a distinctive line. Only one rider shall be permitted in this zone at any time.
(e) Multiple sliding lanes. On slide structures having multiple sliding lanes, the provisions of this subdivision shall apply to each lane individually.
(f) Personnel.
(1) Slide supervisor. The slide supervisor shall have the following duties:
(i) overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the slide structure;
(ii) training of the slide starter and slide attendants in the duties and responsibilities of their assigned tasks.
(2) Slide starter. The slide starter shall be positioned at the top of the slide structure and shall insure that once a rider has started down a slide, the next rider will not start until the starting zone has been cleared.
(3) Slide attendants.
(i) Start of slide. At the start of the slide there shall be at least one attendant whose function shall be to control the line of individuals waiting to use the slide.
(ii) End of slide. At the end of the slide there shall be at least one attendant who shall insure that the slide riders leave the area with the mats used during their ride. This requirement shall not apply to those slides less than 70 feet in length (sliding surface) which are straight run and on which a rider is not permitted to start down until the previous rider has cleared the entire slide and removed the mat.
(4) One person may be designated to perform multiple duties as required hereunder.
(g) Sign instructions and rules of conduct. A large, well maintained sign, containing instructions and rules of conduct pertaining to the use of the slide, shall be displayed near the top of the slide structure.
