Section 2.16 - Notification and investigation of outbreaks
(a) Whenever there shall occur in any municipality an outbreak of illness, it shall be the duty of the city, county or district health officer to report immediately by telephone, telegram or in person the existence of such an outbreak to the State Department of Health. The city, county or district health officer shall exercise due diligence in ascertaining the existence of such outbreaks or the unusual prevalence of diseases, and shall immediately investigate the causes of same. A report of such investigation shall be forwarded to the Department of Health within 30 days of the end of the outbreak.
(b) Provided that when such an outbreak occurs in a State institution, the person in charge of such institution shall report the outbreak immediately by telephone, facsimile transmission, or other electronic communication, or in person to the State Department of Health and to the city, county or district health officer in whose jurisdiction the institution is located.
