Section 8.371.2.75 - PHYSICAL RESTRAINT OF CLIENTSExcept as provided for behavior modification programs, the facility may allow the use of physical restraint on a client only if absolutely necessary to protect the client from injuring himself or others.
A. The facility may not use physical restraint:(2) for the convenience of the staff;(3) as a substitute for activities or treatment.B. The facility must have written policies that specify:(1) how and when physical restraints may be used;(2) the staff members who must authorize its use;(3) the method for monitoring and controlling its use.C. An order for physical restraint may not be in effect longer than 12 hours.D. Appropriately trained staff must check a client placed in a physical restraint at least every 30 minutes and keep a record of these checks.E. A client who is in a physical restraint must be given an opportunity for motion and exercise for a period of not less than 10 minutes during each two hours of restraint.N.M. Admin. Code § 8.371.2.75
