Section 8:31B-4.1 - Purpose
(a) The purpose of this subchapter is to provide the basis for a standardized system of reporting the financial elements to be used in conjunction with the Hospital Reporting of Uniform Bill-Patient Summaries regulation (N.J.A.C. 8:31B-2 ) and the Financial Reporting and Monitoring regulation (N.J.A.C. 8:31B-3 ) for implementing the Health Care Facilities Planning Act, P.L. 1971, c. 136 as amended by P.L. 1978, c. 83; P.L. 1991, c. 187; P.L. 1992, c. 160, P.L. 1998, c. 43, P.L. 2004, c. 54, and P.L. 2004, c. 113.
(b) The Commissioner shall require each hospital to report cost, revenue and statistical information in accordance with the uniform system described in this subchapter. Separately licensed hospitals that are part of a hospital system shall submit separate Acute Care Hospital Cost Reports as defined in 8:31B-4.131. This information is critical and is required to support the Department's public health activities, which include planning, licensing, allocating charity care subsidies, providing information to consumers and other interested parties, and monitoring hospital costs and revenues.
