Section 16:53-6.13 - Tires and wheels

(a) A small autobus shall be equipped with tires and wheels of sufficient size and construction as recommended by the manufacturer to meet the gross vehicle weight rating of the small autobus.

(b) A small autobus shall not be operated on any tire having exposed fabric on the tread or sidewall.

(c) The front tires of a small autobus shall have a minimum tread groove of 4/32 of an inch. The rear tires of a small autobus shall have a minimum tread groove of 2/32 of an inch. Measurements shall be made at any point on a major tread groove except where tie bars, humps, or fillets are located.

(d) A small autobus shall not be operated with regrooved, recapped, or retread tires on the front wheels.

(e) A small autobus shall be equipped with tires that are matched in size designation, construction, and profile on the same axle. Radial tires shall not be mixed with other types of tires on the same axle.
